This is a really lovely Crinoline Lady Brooch. It is a hand-painted picture mounted under glass like a beautiful miniature portrait. The brooch is the work of Birmingham based Thomas L. Mott and is marked on the reverse with their trademark - TLM in an Artist's Palette and the words ' Made in England'. The Paintresses from this factory used paintbrushes with only one or two fine hairs to carry out their art. The resulting Crinoline Ladies are superb in their detail with their white powdered wigs, cupid-bow lips and details such as lace ruffled frocks and delicate fans. The gallery for the brooch is a gold plated frame which would also make this item great to use as a picture on a dolls house wall! The size is approximately 2 and a quarter inches by one and three quarter inches. The brooch fastens with a secure roll-over type clasp. T.L. Mott worked in the 1950's and as well as their wonderful and collectable Crinoline Ladies range, they also produced highly detailed garden scenes and seaside scenes. This brooch is in good vintage order, the portrait is very slightly faded and soft and there are just a few scratches on the glass. This is still a lovely item and the faults are mentioned for honesty and to ensure you are delighted with your vintage jewellery purchase.
