With its origin in marine science education, the series has always had a deep-rooted connection to the sea. This connection led Paramount and Nickelodeon to launch SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change, a global conservation and sustainability initiative to help protect the home of the very creatures that inspired Bikini Bottom.
